A recent study by Baylor University looked into the lead generation practices of real estate agents and use of call capture systems. They looked at 3 different steps in the sales process: lead generation, conversation of lead to an appointment, and conversion of appointment to a closed transaction (whether that transaction was a listing or a bought property). Some interesting facts came out of the study in regards to the best practices to generate real estate leads.

Spending By Area Most Productive Areas

Most notable is the side by side comparison of the charts showing the Spending By Area and the Most Productive Areas for agents looking to generate real estate leads.

It is apparent by looking at the graphs that many of the marketing strategies that agents are employing are not giving them a good ROI. They spend the most on Direct Mail and Print Advertising yet also say that it is the least productive.

Also apparent is that the top 3 most productive sources for real estate leads, Referrals, IVR (call capture systems) and repeat business, actual require very little of the agents' budgets.
